Germany added approximately 300MW of new PV capacity in March, according to preliminary figures from the German Federal Network Agency.

This brings the country’s total for the first quarter this year to between 780 to 790MW.

Germany added 717MW in the first quarter of 2010, 513MW in the first quarter of 2011 and 1,969MW in first quarter of 2012, although the boom in 2012 was due to changes to the country’s renewable energy act.

Based on these first-quarter figures, the Federal Network Agency states the number of PV installations for 2013 look to be roughly in line with the past three years.

In 2010, Germany installed a total of 7.38GW of PV capacity, 7.49GW in 2011 and 7.6GW in 2012.

However, the German market although currently in the top three largest utility-scale markets is shrouded in uncertainty until the country’s elections are out of the way in the autumn and the future of its subsidy programme clarified.
